Bostonz Bar & Grill has taken overformer Scoreboards Sports Bar and according to Ryan Whitlow, a partial owner, they've done a complete 180 with the place. In Eastpointe there are four bars within a mile of each other, but Bostonz has a little of everything.

Whitlow, a former employee, and Mark Ridenour, a regular of Scoreboards, teamed up and transformed the place from a dump to a dive. The idea sprung in April, and by June 4 they had taken over. "It was a lot quicker than I expected," says Whitlow.

Bostonz has pool tables, foosball, pinball, and a wooden dance floor. Come for the bands on Friday and DJs on Saturday nights, when there's no cover charge. They also have a 2,400-square-foot kitchen where they serve their famous burgers, and they will be serving pizza soon.

The owners also say they work with Eastern Market to support other local businesses. "Even though this is a Bud Light bar, we are really trying to push local food and distilleries like Valentine," says Whitlow. Regulars love the beer, but the weekend dancing juice is their applesauce shots and $6 mules.

Whitlow says that despite Scoreboards' bad reputation, they are working hard to rebuild the menu and make Bostonz a comfortable community bar. "We are not gonna put up with the drugs, the fights, and the problems," he says. "We want a bar that everyone could come in and feel safe and comfortable."

If you want to watch Jeopardy! or utilize your dancing shoes, head on over for happy hour from noon-6 p.m. Mondays through Friday, or Saturday Power Hour from noon-1 p.m. for a beer, shot, and drink special no higher than $3. Also enjoy their half-pound "build your own cheeseburger" for $6.50 with fries.
