Detroit vegan chef and blogger Quiana Broden is planning a new food incubator and live demo kitchen in Midtown.
Called The Kitchen, the space at 6529 Woodward will serve as a culinary classroom of sorts where vegans and meat lovers can hone their culinary skills; a place for businesses and individuals to rent a shared commercial kitchen; and as a place where people can rent private dining space.
Broden, who developed the healthy living brand Cooking with Que, says in a release that she is focused on teaching people to eat healthier with an emphasis on plant-based food.
The Kitchen is "designed to help people of all ages build sustainable healthy cooking habits, especially those just starting out," Broden says. "It is a platform to promote a more plant-based, eat-to-live mentality for the community through the art of food, all from preparation to presentation."
Broden started the Cooking with Que brand after being diagnosed with sarcoidosis and dairy allergies 10 years ago. She chose to search for alternative holistic methods and recipes, as opposed to taking doctor-recommended steroids every day for the rest of her life.
Broden and The Kitchen were recipients of a $60,000 Motor City Match grant.
