Domaine de la Verrière
$17

When the weather turns, what’s a good wine to help bring oenophiles into spring? We asked the good people at Royal Oak’s Cloverleaf, who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of rosés next month. The store’s Darren DeWitt told us he’s particularly excited about the arrival of this year’s Domaine de la Verrière, from the Ventoux winemaking region in the south of France. He says, “It’s dry but it has a soft acidity so it’s quaffable, which means you can have it with or without a meal. It will stand up to food, but it’s soft enough to have by itself. It has red berry flavors, which means it pairs well with a Michigan cherry salad with goat cheese. It definitely reminds me of warmer weather.” There are some bottles left from last year, but the new stuff should arrive in the next few weeks, retailing for $17 a bottle. DeWitt says they’re proud to import the wine themselves. Warm up your wine cellar at Cloverleaf, 711 S. Main St., Royal Oak; 248-357-0400.
