A $19 million project that would turn the former Detroit Water and Sewerage building in the Eastern Market into a brewery, food production facility, and restaurants is being proposed by a former Detroit Economic Growth Corporation director.

Crain's reports that the Detroit City Council will on Tuesday consider selling the 104,000-square-foot building, at 3500 Riopelle St., to George Jackson for $700,000. It has sat empty since the mid-1990s.

The DEGC requested proposals for the property in March 2016, and it looks like one of its own might get it.
