The Violent Femmes could be considered the originators of folk punk – the Milwaukee based trio combined a punk attitude with roots instrumentation. They got their start busking on street corners, but went on to release a platinum-selling debut album featuring many instant classics like “Blister in the Sun,” “Add It Up,” and “Kiss Off.” After a few breakups and reboots, the Femmes are at it again with a new album, their first in 16 years. They’ve still got it — they truly play “American Music.”
