United Sound Historical Marker Fundraiser

Charlie Parker, John Lee Hooker, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Isaac Hayes, Death, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have all recorded inside the iconic United Sound Systems studio. In fact, the building predates Berry Gordy’s Motown. The beloved facilities are now protected from demolition thanks to a nod from the Detroit Historic Commission, which shields the edifice from major exterior changes and being torn down. In honor of the momentous designation as a historical site, the Detroit Sound Conservancy is hoping to raise enough money to purchase a marker for the building. The party will feature food by Mimi’s Bistro, brews from Motor City Brewing Works, music by Piranhahead, and a tour of the building.
