Timothy van Laar

This is the second solo show in Detroit by van Laar, a mixed-media artist and art critic who serves as chair of fine arts at the College for Creative Studies. In addition to his work, the gallery is also showing About Painting, an exhibition curated by van Laar featuring works by Macyn Bolt, Barbara Kendrick, and David Klamen. Together, both shows can be considered “meta-paintings,” or paintings about painting — offering a self-reflexive look at the medium.
