The Detroit Festival of Books

The hiatus is over. The Detroit Festival of Books is delighted to announce its return to the Motor City on Sunday, July 18. The state of Michigan’s largest book festival had to cancel its 2020 event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But 2021 will be different, as Bookfest resumes this year at Detroit's Eastern Market, in Shed 5. "After speaking with our partner, Detroit's Eastern Market, we decided Bookfest is a go to return," said Ryan M. Place, founder and chairman of Bookfest. "While the safety of our fans and vendors is of paramount concern, the market's adherence to COVID-19 safety practices, as well as the progress our nation has made in combating the pandemic, gave us confidence that Bookfest can resume in 2021." When the festival announced its cancellation for summer 2020, the organization noted it was only shifting gears and not halting all efforts. "Since the last Bookfest in July 2019 we have invested a great deal of time and energy into making the fourth-annual Bookfest a success," Place said. "We're excited to feature more books, more great food and more music in July 2021!" Bookfest will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Eastern Market's Shed 5. In addition to the live event will be a "Virtual Bookfest" for supporters to make online purchases from trusted vendors. More details will follow shortly.
