Friends of Rouge Park is proud to present "Rhythm & Rouge," a vibrant community event set to take place on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. The event will be held in Rouge Park, near the Brennan Pools parking lot on Brennan Pool Dr. & Plymouth Rd.
Curated by the esteemed program manager, Alex "Lex" Allen IV, Rhythm & Rouge aims to foster community engagement, spread awareness of local resources, and provide environmental education opportunities within the Rouge Park community.
Rouge Park, Detroit's largest park spanning over 1200 acres, holds a special place in the hearts of its residents. Friends of Rouge Park, a non-profit organization founded in 2002, has been tirelessly working towards restoring, protecting, and promoting the natural and cultural richness of this urban oasis.
The event will feature electrifying performances by local talents including Jodye Watts, Untitled., Ruby Flwrs, Kris Lamar and the High Octane Hitters, and Lex the Radical. Renowned DJ Guru will set the rhythm for the night, while the event will be hosted by Detroit's own Kaiko Draco. Additionally, an open mic session will provide a platform for emerging artists to showcase their talent and connect with the community.

Alex "Lex" Allen IV, program manager of Friends of Rouge Park, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, "This is a great opportunity for the community to provide feedback and learn about ways to contribute to the health and beauty of Detroit’s largest park. It’s also a great opportunity for artists to connect with the community and create a platform that allows them to use the power of music to make a positive impact."
Rhythm & Rouge is not only about entertainment but also about fostering community partnerships. Participating organizations include the City of Detroit, Detroit Black Community Food Sovereignty Network, Cody-Rouge Community Action Alliance, US Forest Service, Detroit Outdoors, Black To The Land Coalition, Detroit Zoo, and Greening of Detroit.
Jay & Mani’s Pizza will generously serve free pizza during the event, and Friends of Rouge Park will host a survey giveaway, with the chance to win a family of four pack to the Detroit Zoo.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of music, community, and environmental advocacy at Rhythm & Rouge. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
