The Janice Charach Gallery hosts 46 Michigan artists in new show entitled "Recollection". Using all types of media, each artist seeks to express their sense of nostalgia and affection for the past. It opens on Sunday, November 3 and runs to December 11, 2024.
"There is nothing like the feeling of nostalgia; the sentimental wistful affection for the past," says Janice Charach Gallery Director Natalie Balazovich. "Through these evocative works of art we hope to engage the artists and audience together to reminisce on past memories. From imagery of old toys, cars and TV shows to abstract thoughts discussing the act or feeling or recalling the past, this exhibition will bring viewers back to the good - ol - days."
The Opening Reception of the show is Sunday, November 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. and is open, free, to the public. Many of the artists will be in attendance.
The Janice Charach Gallery is located at 6600 W. Maple in West Bloomfield, inside The J Detroit. The 5,000 sq. foot, two-floor gallery is noted for its state-of-the-art space with its soaring skylight.
Regular gallery hours are Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the show continues, open to the public, until December 11, 2024
The main floor of the Charach Gallery will be dedicated to the work of 13 Invited artists. The upper floor of the gallery will feature the work of 33 artists who responded to an open call.
The full spectrum of media is a highlight of the massive show featuring collages of all types, sculpture, pottery, paintings and much more.
"It's exciting to see how this simple theme has solicited such a tremendous diversity of response from the artists. The pieces range from a space cowboy to snapshots transformed into paintings, a portrait of potato head and a unique take on paper dolls - just to name a few of the interpretations of the Recollection theme," said Bazalovich. " This show is sure to provoke a tremendous response from all the visitors as they react to the artists' work and revisit their own memories."
