The son of country star Steve Earle and godson of the late Townes Van Zandt, Justin Townes Earle was basically born into Nashville music royalty. But for his latest record — Kids in the Street, his seventh — Earle switched things up, recording for the first time not in Nashville but in Omaha, Neb. with indie producer Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, She and Him, First Aid Kit). As a result, Kids in the Street expands on Earle’s sonic palette, dabbling in honky-tonk and New Orleans jazz, in addition to folk and blues.
