Juneteenth at the Flint Institute of Arts

The Flint Institute of Arts celebrates Juneteenth on Friday, June 16 from 11 AM - 5 PM, beginning with the Traditional Flint Juneteenth's Unity Walk beginning at 11 AM at Kearsley Street and Crapo Street. This begins the festivities on the grounds of the Flint Cultural Center.

The FIA will be hosting the following activities onsite:

Juneteenth: Faith & Freedom
In this documentary, a Black man is troubled by the legacy of American slavery and the misuse of Christianity to justify it. He travels throughout Texas and discovers how the Juneteenth holiday reveals the hope and courage that empowered the formerly enslaved and their descendants to fight for freedom in an often unjust society. 12p–4p, shown in the FIA Theater every hour.

Sons: Seeing the Modern African American Male
Featuring photographs by Jerry Taliaferro of 49 men from the Flint community, this exhibition is much more than a photographic study, as it also aims to explore perceptions and bias. Administration Hallways

The Power of Print: Collaborative Relief Printing
Explore the power of printmaking with artist Janice McCoy and pull a relief print to take home. In collaboration with Flint Poet Laureate Semaj Brown, this design is inspired by her poem Black Dandelion. 12p–1:30p & 2p–4p, Lobby

Colors of Freedom
