We sure do love to blow stuff up here, don’t we? What better way to celebrate (whatever it is we’re celebrating today, the Freedom Festival?) than with an awesome ’works display along the Detroit River downtown, courtesy of the Parade Co., and paid for by the same Ford Motor Co. that helped to birth modern Detroit? Fireworks aficionados praise this event, now in its 57th year, as one of the world’s largest and magnificent fireworks displays in all of Earth. Those of us with dogs will, of course, be comforting our cowering friends, and trying to explain to them that we had nothing to do with all those scary noises, and that it’ll soon be over, so please stop shaking, buddy.
The Ford Fireworks can be viewed on WDIV-Local 4’s live broadcast beginning at 8 p.m. News/Talk 760 WJR will provide a special radio simulcast throughout the event and provide up-to-the-minute traffic and weather information throughout the day.
The display will begin at sundown and is viewable from all rooftops near the river downtown, and is of course free.
