While Erica Dawn Lyle has been called a “punk rock hero” by Pitchfork, the author, filmmaker, curator, and former touring guitar player for Bikini Kill’s reunion tour has for the past several years taken a wildly adventurous turn into the world of experimental music and improvised dance. Since leaving Bikini Kill in 2022, she has toured extensively and released several albums of her inspired solo improvised guitar inventions and musical collaborations with the likes of Kim Gordon, The Raincoats, and the late poet, Bernadette Mayer. This October, Lyle returns to the Midwest on tour for the first time since before pandemic, with a series of gigs in support of her latest work, Colonial Motels, released by the celebrated connoisseurs of avant garde sounds at Notice Recordings. Motels is the hard working guitarist’s third full length solo project in two years in a prolific stretch that has also included the release of LAND TRUST, her much lauded fundraising collaboration with longtime underground musical hero, Vice Cooler and their friends like Gordon, Brontez Purnell, Kelley Deal, and Lyle’s former bandmate, Kathleen Hanna.
