In March 2017, Detroit was invited as Guest City of Honor by fellow UNESCO City of Design Saint-Etienne, France to present exhibitions exploring the future of work at the 10th International Design Biennale in Saint-Etienne to an audience of more than 230,000. Together, these three independent, multi-disciplinary exhibitions offered a survey of the city’s interconnected movements and explored imagined futures as the definition of work itself changes in Detroit. This showcase features objects and experiences from the original exhibitions Footwork, Out of Site, and Shiftspace, alongside photos, video, and stories from the 70 Detroiters who traveled to Saint-Etienne.
