A Weekend with Humphrey & Huston: "Beat the Devil" (1953)

In 1953 director John Huston, with the help of Truman Capote, set out to make another picture with his friend and frequent collaborator, Humphrey Bogart. Initially the film was going to be another Maltese Falcon with all the exciting twists and turns of that earlier collaboration. When it was finished it fell flop at the box office. "Beat the Devil" would eventually live on to reach cult status. The end result is a comic adventure story that also works as a spoof of Huston’s own work, one that cares more about character than plot. Organ overture at 7:30pm. Free parking.
