2000/2020: Celebrating 20 Years of the Electronic Music Festival in Detroit

For 20 years, electronic music fans from around the world have flocked to Detroit at the end of May for one of the biggest urban parties on the planet. What began as a loose and free celebration put on with the help of grassroots volunteers has evolved into a professionally produced, internationally known event.

Even though the in-person festival paused this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Detroit Historical Museum will recognize its two-decade milestone anniversary with a photography exhibition highlighting each year of the festival, curated by Detroit electronic music community insiders Rita Sayegh and Tim Price.

The exhibition 2000/2020: Celebrating 20 Years of the Electronic Music Festival in Detroit will open in the Robert and Mary Ann Bury Community Gallery on Saturday, September 26 and run through next years’ festival in 2021.

The photography on display captures all the joy of Detroit’s famous festivals by focusing on the people who make the events so special.

In addition to framed photographs featuring all aspects of the festival experience, the exhibit will include a living wall of fan photos from the festival’s 20 years with the names of fans who contributed them. For those who can’t visit the museum in person, a virtual exhibit will accompany the physical exhibition, making it accessible to fans across the globe.
