Seize the day — The abandoned structure squad (that’s ASS, suckah) always gets a kick trolling the Wayne County Web site (www.waynecounty.com/WCAuctions) to see the latest palaces up for bid. We never cease to be amazed at the price relatively decent-looking properties are going for. Take, for example, this little gem at 8766 Bessemore in Detroit. It was seized by the Prosecutor’s Office. Described as a bungalow — allow us to throw in the adjective cozy — has two bedrooms downstairs, two upstairs, plus a living room and dining room. Sure, each room must be the size of a matchbox, but hey, the price is right. When we checked on Monday, the current high bid was a whopping $2,000. There’s still a few more days if you want to throw your cash into the ring. Caveat emptor: this place and its mates on the auction block are sold "as is." Plus, the buyer has to pay up back taxes, utility bills, mortgage debts, etc. In this case that adds up to a bit more than $1,100. If interested, you better log on and bid up, because in a few days it will be going, going, gone!
