Folk singer-songwriter Joe Purdy brings his 'hillbilly' music to the Ark

Having released over 14 studio records in as many years, Arkansas native, singer/songwriter, and self-proclaimed “hillbilly” Joe Purdy charts a different journey than most. Though planted in the tradition of folk greats such as Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, and Phil Ochs, Purdy is nothing if not a passionate observer with a unique perspective on his own inner workings and the world at large. Much of his commercial success is thanks to soundtrack work, but like a true folkie his dirt road street cred remains intact.

Joe Purdy takes the stage at the Ark, 316 S. Main St. Ann Arbor, on Thursday, Sept. 14. For more info call 734-761-1800 or go to theark.org. Tickets are $20.
