Mango Cannabis, a family-run cannabis company with medical marijuana dispensaries in Oklahoma, has opened its first recreational retail location in Michigan — the home of its founders — and plans to open a second early next year.
The new flagship “superstore,” a 4,000-square-foot space at 5620 South Cedar St. in Lansing, marks the company’s first venture outside of Oklahoma, where it debuted in 2019.
A second Michigan location in Waterford is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025, with further expansions planned in New Mexico and New York.
“Lansing is the first store in our home state, so it’s very special to us,” Jon Pattah, Mango Cannabis’ chief marketing officer and co-founder, said in a statement. “Before we went to Oklahoma in 2018, Lansing is where this story began. We originally applied for a license here, but the system was extremely stringent and complicated, so it’s really nice that our first Michigan store is in Lansing — it means something to us.”
The store opened on Oct. 21.
Mango Cannabis is entering Michigan’s recreational cannabis market after operating exclusively in Oklahoma’s medical-only market, a shift that the company says will allow it to expand its offerings and reach a broader customer base in Michigan, where recreational cannabis use is legal. The Lansing location is designed to offer a high-end, welcoming shopping experience, with sleek design elements, such as glowing green and orange mango-themed signage, modern glass windows, and a calming green wall that sets a relaxing tone for customers. The store’s layout is intentionally minimalist to showcase products as the focal point and guide customers smoothly from entrance to checkout, Mango Cannabis said.
The company was founded by four partners, all under 40, who worked in West Bloomfield and gained extensive retail experience in their families’ businesses. CEO Kevin Pattah, CMO Jon Pattah, COO Mike Khemmoro, and President Brandon Binno said they bring a customer-focused approach, which has earned Mango Cannabis top honors on Weedmaps for three consecutive years.
In Oklahoma, Mango Cannabis built a reputation for top-tier customer service, competitive pricing, and attention to detail, and it plans to bring the same standards to its Michigan locations, the company said.
“Mango Cannabis will stand out in Lansing the same way we do across all our locations,” Kevin Pattah said. “Our commitment to providing a welcoming, knowledgeable environment ensures that customers not only find what they need but also have an outstanding experience every time they visit.”
The new Lansing dispensary is intended to serve as a central hub for Michigan vendors.
“A lot of vendors are excited about our new venue and want us to be their Lansing hub,” Kevin Pattah said. “As in Oklahoma, we are going to be working with vendors closely on great deals and promotions for thousands of products. Being able to offer our customers the best prices that are usually considerably better than those of our competitors is very important to us.”
As Mango Cannabis expands beyond Michigan and Oklahoma, it aims to establish itself as a leading multi-state cannabis retailer with locations planned in Sunland Park, New Mexico, and Rochester, New York.
