Detroit knows how to throw a party and the 150th anniversary of one of our most iconic brands is an occasion worthy of a big one. From a ginger beer crawl through the bars of Detroit to Boston Coolers for a cause, the event promises plenty of fizzy fun.
It kicks off on Friday, June 10 with a ginger beer crawl hosted by the Detroit Experience Factory. But don’t overindulge because Saturday brings a full day of festivities.
Show off your selfie skills during the 11 a.m. poker run of Vernor’s sites around the city, then return to the Historical Museum where a book signing, film screening, and guest speakers will spotlight Vernor’s history. The Vernor’s Ginger Ale Collectors Club will be serving up Vernor’s floats and Boston Coolers from noon to 3:30 p.m., with the proceeds going to fund a historical marker to commemorate the brand. At 4:15 p.m., raise a glass to becoming a part of history in an attempt to set a world record for most soda pop drinkers.
It all uncaps a special weeklong exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum chronicling the history of Vernors, from its 1866 debut to its current status as the oldest continuously produced soft drink in America.
Additional events, including Vernor’s-inspired dishes at local restaurants and a list of buildings participating in the club’s effort to light the city in green and yellow, will be posted on the club website as details become available.
