First Taste: 24-Hour Daily Dinette launches today in Ferndale

Ferndale is welcoming its first 24-hour diner today, Daily Dinette, owned by Kramer Restaurant Group (the same folks behind One-Eyed Betty's). The quick-service spot features burgers, breakfast sammies, coneys, as well as fresh-made donuts and nitro coffee.

Daily Dinette and another Kramer concept, the soon-to-open Pop's for Italian, share the 10,000-square foot space on Nine Mile that had previously been a Buffalo Wild Wings and Twisted Shamrock on West Nine Mile. Pop's, which will specialize in Neapolitan pizza, is supposed to open by early March, says executive chef Emmele Herrold, who will run the kitchens at all three restaurants. The front of the Italian spot faces Nine Mile, while the dinette faces the rear parking area. A patio with swivel stools and a pickup window are also featured outside the diner. Both restaurants are accessible from either side.
We stopped by today for a mid-afternoon snack. The space feels like a teen girl's dream room. Designed by Ron Rae to have a classic diner feel, with a modern twist, the eatery features high, exposed ceilings, long, tall powder pink patent leather and faux fur booths, and retro lamp shades that dangle from the rafters. Signage and staff uniforms also have a vintage aesthetic, crisp white and black.
We tried a Coney, a couple of donuts (one cider with cinnamon and sugar dusting, and a glazed with chocolate). The Coney came out expeditiously and served on a metal tray, right after we found a seat. The cider donuts were prepared within moments of being handed to us, with a fryer machine prominently displayed at the cashier counter. The nitro coffee, which is a cold-brew java, that's kegged and then served through a nitro line, giving off the taste and feel of a frothy Guinness beer.
We enjoyed the light, fun atmosphere of the dinette and imagine we will be returning many times, especially given the appeal of its 24/7 offerings. The Daily Dinette is at 280 West Nine Mile, Ferndale.
