Ponyride is looking for new artists in residence

Ponyride, a creative business incubator on the outskirts of Corktown, is looking for creatives to join their brand new artists in residence program.

The programs are officially called the Applebaum Emerging Artist and Knight Artist Residency Programs at Ponyride. As one might deduce, the programs are monetarily supported by the Applebaum Family's Compass Fund as well as the Knight Foundation.

In total the programs will host six local artists who plan to stay in the Detroit area indefinitely. According to Ponyride's director of arts and education, Noah Morrison, artists of all disciplines are welcome to apply.

The Applebaum Emerging Artist Residency promises a $2,500 award, free accommodations, and a materials budget to the artists who are selected. They'll also be given a stipend to travel to New York to network with gallery owners and art collectors. Part of their residency will see the artists hosting public programming based on their discipline.

The Knight Artist Residency Program will be a little different. Ponyride will award one artist a $4,000 stipend and two artists $1,000 stipends.

"These artists will be creating experiences for the community and themselves in the process,” Morrison said in a release.
