We posted here last week that former Detroiter Mark Norton aka Ivan Suvanjieff (of the Ramrods, who'll be doing a reunion show at the Magic Stick on Aug. 16th) was on a short list of possible nominees for a Nobel Peace Prize. It turns out that Norton/Suvanjieff, his wife Dawn Gifford Engle and their PeaceJam Foundation have indeed been nominated for the award after the committee received letters from six Nobel Peace Laureates, including Mairead Corrigan Maguire, Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jose Ramos-Horta, Rigoberta Menchu Tum, and Betty Williams. The couple will be celebrating the nomination in Denver (where they now make their home) on Friday night (Aug. 10th) at the D Note in Olde Town Arvada (Grandview and Old Wadsworth). No, we don't imagine anyone will be making the trek West just for the celebration, but the celebration is noteworthy due to a set by Detroit rock heroes, the Go, whose new album is pretty noteworthy as well.
