The Internet is swimming in boobies — duh. But thanks to recent events, there’s a new kind of teat taking over: the charitable breast.
In the right hands, porn can actually be humanitarian. That’s the idea behind boobs4bourbonst.com, a Katrina benefit Web site that takes a different approach to fund raising. Hundreds of gracious young women have donated photos of their ripe melons, but to see them, you must make a minimum $5 or $10 contribution to one of five charities of the site’s choosing — they include the Red Cross, U.S. Humane Society and Habitat for Humanity. Once you’ve received a confirmation of your donation, you forward the e-mail to the Boobs4BourbonSt webmasters, who then grant you open access to their virtual sea of fun bags.
Given the favored activity of Bourbon Street, it’s a solution that’s both fitting and profitable — the site claims to have raised almost $30,000 to date. So, yeah, they’re raising more than just money, and it’s not completely altruistic, but who cares? At least you can have the warm fuzzy glow of having contributed to society while violating yourself with online smut.
The idea isn’t a new one. Last year in the United Kingdom, a young woman going by the name of Vix was drinking in a pub when a few blokes dared her to flash her rack for 10 U.K. pounds. She did, and decided to donate her winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity (Vix was diagnosed with the disease in 1998). She decided to take the idea and run with it, creating vixpix.org, which displays photos of her plentiful bosom and solicits donations to a British MS research center. She claims to have raised more than 5,200 U.K. pounds ($10,000 U.S.) to date.
