Last week, the Sierra Club held a press conference at Metro Beach Park to kick off a television and radio campaign intended to make certain the public is fully informed about Spence’s record, which, according to the group, is “abysmal.”
“When it comes to Lake St. Clair and the Great Lakes, Abraham has been a showhorse, taking credit for efforts he had nothing to do with and hiding from those he did,” castigated Alison Horton, director of the Mackinac Chapter of the Sierra Club. “While in D.C., the Senator has been a real workhorse alright, a workhorse for polluters and the policies of neglect for the Great Lakes and Lake St. Clair.”
Just one example: In 1998, Abraham voted against a bill allocating $1.35 billion to assist communities dealing with the kind of combined sewer overflows that are routinely closing Lake St. Clair beaches because of the dangers posed by E. coli contamination.
Which means that, in regards to Spence, when people complain about a politician feeding them a load of crap, the gripe can be taken literally.
