There’s nothing like a slice of pie to ease the sting of heartbreak. But for Waitress’ Jenna Hunterson — a newly pregnant waitress, expert pie maker, and unhappy wife to an abusive oaf — baking becomes a means to an end, and a new beginning. Inspired by the 2007 indie film of the same name starring Keri Russell, the Tony Award-winning musical boasts original music by Sara Bareilles and follows Jenna as she decides to take off and bake her way through her pain — the Key (Lime) to Happiness Pie and Betrayed By My Eggs Pie — until her life becomes the slice of heaven she always dreamed of.
Waitress' opening night performance begins at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 at the Fisher Theatre; 3011 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit; 313-872-1000; broadwayindetroit.com. Tickets are $39.50+.
