WSU professor takes issue with 'Future City'

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan’s development chief recently said Detroit Future City, a 347-page document proclaimed as a blueprint for the city’s future, is his “bible.” Wayne State law professor Peter Hammer has a different take. Hammer tells MLive that full implementation of the plan would be a “deathblow” to the city, that it would “re-organize Detroit out of existence.” Hammer, the director of the Damon Keith Center for Civil Rights at WSU, will make his case against the plan inside the main dining room of Marygrove College’s Madame Cadillac Building at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25. Because righteous citizen outrage is best dished over soft-serve ice cream.
