Wooden Shjips aptly add an extra shush to their name, with their love of fuzzy tones and hazy effects. The San Fran-based modern psychedelic rock outfit’s tunes are kind of like wind storms, with distorted guitars always churning and the drums relentlessly bursting things forward. The cooler organs provide a steady rhythm while the pedal-effected guitars heave and howl like a wicked siren.
But Wooden Shjips is much more groovy than aggressive, particularly demonstrated on Back To Land, a title evocative of this album’s earthier vibe; whilst still not grounded per se, as each song’s a driver.
