Yesterday we rode from Ann Arbor to Canton, where the piano-bike spent the night prior to today's ride to Livonia for our 8 p.m. gig at the Trinity House Theater. We were pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy and given a stern lecture regarding cycling and sharing the road. Luckily, we're very pleased to share the roads with any vehicles other than piano-bikes, or even other piano-bikes, so we saw no problem and proceeded at a maniacal pace in front of a looming storm.
We found shelter (barely) in a barn on Plymouth Rd., before making the last three miles in gentle rain. Today we'll conduct an interview with Michigan Public Radio, then ride through suburban traffic to Livonia. We may have to lift our piano off the bike and up some stairs, if anyone reads this in time and wants to help.
Tomorrow we'll leave the theater at 2:30 p.m., roll east on Six Mile to Grand River, then ride on into Detroit for our 7-9 p.m. hit at Cliff Bell's. We'll raise money for a headstone for my old friend and mentor, Boogie Woogie Red. I hope we get the word out for this early gig.
I've heard encouraging reports from the folks at Earthworks who are helping organize our Friday the 15th, 2:30 p.m. group ride from the Detroit Institute of Arts. We're hoping for a great turnout for an unprecedented tour through the city with the piano-bike, and perhaps many other unusual bikes tagging along. I want to see the flat screen TV-bike, or maybe the cannon-bike.
