Whitmer to speak at UM commencement on May 4, hopefully with just as much fist pumping.
She may be a Spartan, but Governor Whitmer is set to address thousands of Wolverines in the Big House at the University of Michigan’s commencement this spring.
The university announced Monday that Gov. Whitmer, who received two degrees from MSU and has a private residence in East Lansing, will take the stage in Ann Arbor on May 4. She is the sixth sitting governor to deliver the graduation speech at UM in the past 40 years.
Whitmer, who was elected governor in November of 2018, previously served in the state Senate and the state House of Representatives, and as Ingham County prosecutor. Before that, she taught law at both UM and MSU.
“What an honor and what an incredible opportunity to congratulate these graduates who worked so hard, who are going to go off to do amazing things in our country, in our state, in our community,” Whitmer said in a video on Twitter.
“And I will say ‘Go Blue,’ proudly.”
