Detroit will be getting a post-holiday visitor next month with "Off the Wall" skate brand, Vans.
Details of the House of Vans Pop-Up Detroit were announced Wednesday and so far it is on pace to be the biggest iteration of the event including those in Montreal, Mexico City, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Paris.
The free four-day multi-tiered event will arrive on Thursday, Jan. 24 and will run through Sunday, Jan. 27 at the Jefferson School in Midtown. The school will be transformed to host a weekend of local art, workshops, live music, vendors, and, of course, a skate park in the school's gymnasium with open skate sessions throughout the weekend.
Danny Brown, Protomartyr, Joyce Manor are among the event's headliners. Performers Amber Mark, Thundercat, and Kelsey Lu are also on the bill. As part of the musical portion of the pop-up, Vans will also introduce its SESSIONS series which gives other local musicians the opportunity to perform throughout the event. Ann Arbor-based indie label Ghostly International will also be on site celebrating its 20th anniversary and has enlisted Matthew Dear to lead a modular synth workshop for the occasion.
