It takes two to tango — or in the case of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera or Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock, it takes two to create.

"Symbiosis" at Detroit Artists Market is described as the exploration of the balance between symbiotic interdependence and autonomy. Curated by Melissa Jones, Symbiosis features works by several pairs of artistic partnerships who will dive into their process and experiences as they all seek to discover whether two heads are really better than one. Among the seven duos are Andrea Eckert and Nathan Tonning, Meighen and Bill Jackson, Elena and Aubrey Smith, and Faina Lerman and Graem Whyte.

Symbiosis opening begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7 at Detroit Artists Market; 4719 Woodward Ave., Detroit; 313-832-8540; detroitartistsmarket.org; Event is free.
