This special Made in Michigan guide is brought to you by Detroit Metro Times, where we routinely focus not just on homegrown products from the Detroit area, but those coming out of the entire Great Lakes State. Naturally, we’re proud of our state, but this special publication gives us an opportunity to discuss all of the great food, drink, luxuries, and sundries we offer the world, as well as such cultural exports as music, art, and film.

But the reasons to tout Michiganders’ creations go above and beyond our significant Michigan pride: The Michigan Economic Development Corporation reports that, if the average Michigan shopper spent an extra $10 a week on Michiganmade products, that would pump another $36 million into the state economy.

Since the housing crash in 2007, it’s something our state’s business leaders realize that our economically suffering state desperately needs. If we’re going to survive and prosper in these pleasant peninsulas, we’re going to have to reward all the manufacturers, musicians, artists, and other creatives who call our state home.

And so we’ve put together a guide that helps publicize great Michigan products — some of which you might not have heard about — with a little wit and whimsy along the way. We hope you enjoy it.
