On Saturday, Detroit celebrated its 10th annual Veterans Day Parade, kicking off weeks of events in the metropolitan area as Veterans Day approached. Many clubs, establishments, and organizations are putting on events and giving out free meals to vets and active duty personnel. Here's a list of events dedicated to giving thanks to our vets on or near Nov. 11.

Wednesday, Nov. 11
The Detroit Police Department's Eleventh Precinct will host the 8th Annual Veteran’s Day Luncheon and parade. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Light Guard Armory, located at 4400 East 8 Mile Rd., Detroit. More information available here.

Wednesday, Nov. 11
The City of West Bloomfield and the Tuskegee Airmen-West Bloomfield Chapter cordially invite all veterans to attend a memorial honoring all our heroes, especially those whose lives were taken while serving their country. The Township Supervisor/Mayor will place a wreath at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015 at 9 a.m. at City Hall located at 4550 Walnut Lake Rd., west of Orchard Lake Rd. in West Bloomfield. Wednesday, Nov. 11
Lawrence Technological University is hosting a Veterans Day Ceremony in the college of management in the atrium, 21000 W. 10 Mile Rd., Southfield, starting at 12:30 p.m.. Come and have lunch with the student vets, which is free.

Wednesday, Nov. 11
Active Heroes is an all day telethon WAVE3 to lift 22 million pounds to raise money and awareness to help end veteran suicide. To sign up to be part of the lifting visit their website. For more information see flier.

Thursday, Nov. 12
Women Supporting Women in the Military and our Veterans is hosting a Hat and Scarf Auction at the Howell Elks Club, 2830 E Grand River, Howell, from 5:30 till 9PM. Donation of $20 ($210 for military/veterans) is requested and includes dinner at 6PM. For complete info see flier.

Thursday, Nov. 12 
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 267 is hosting an Hepatitis C Awareness & Education Initiative at the Dearborn Hgts VFW Post 6576, located at 6828 Waverly, Dearborn Hgts, from 10AM till Noon, including lunch. Friday, Nov. 13
The Michigan Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America is hosting its annual gala at the Suburban Collection Showcase, 46100 Grand River, Novi, starting at 6PM till 9PM. Guest speaker is Captain Joseph Keller. Tickets are $75 and sponsorships are available. For more info see attached flier.

Sunday, Nov. 15
The Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society will present "Forging Thunderbolts" at 2PM at the Museum. The Fallen & Wounded Soldiers Fund is hosting a night with author David Nelson of "The Blaine Family Chronicles. You will have the opportunity to bid on helping to name characters in an upcoming new book. For complete information on this event see the attached flier.

Thursday, Nov. 19
University of Detroit - Mercy Law School is hosting a Criminal Expungement Law Clinic from 9AM till 11AM at SS Peter & Paul Church Sanctuary, 438 St Antoine, Detroit. The Michigan Veteran Warriors Hockey Team will play the Red Wings Alumni at 5:15PM at the Royal Oak Ice Arena. Tickets start at $20 for a general adult admission, $5 for children. The Metro Airport Freedom Center Support Group in conjunction with US Marine Corps League & the Berkley VFW Post 922 are hosting a spaghetti dinner at the post, in Berkley, from 6 till 9PM.
