Walk into Vogue Vintage on Woodward Avenue in Pleasant Ridge and you’re likely to go into retro overload. Rather than your average resale shop, Vogue Vintage focuses heavily on mid-century pieces, from dinette sets to light fixtures to clothing, clocks, knick-knacks, and more. Of course, other decades are covered here as well, from the ’40s to the ’90s to the ’90s does the ’50s to the early 2000s.
A resource for movies made in Michigan, many of the wares found inside Vogue Vintage can also be seen in some Hollywood megahits. Now that they’re working with the folks involved in the new Batman v. Superman movie, you’re likely to see some of the store’s staples in a few scenes.
While there we browsed a set of glass-and-chrome cocktail glasses and marveled over some overstuffed, tufted armchairs. While there were quite a few things we liked, we did however find that prices here were rather high. Some cool clocks that appeared as gargantuan pocket watches were hard to pass up, but at more than $100 a pop, it was hard to commit to the buy. A large old record player that remains in good shape, a payphone, a nice selection of world globes, some crystal decanters, and a collection of old Time and Life magazines was available as well.
Some clothing is in stock, too, and we spotted a great black boho-style felt hat that was going for $40, along with some fun ’70s-style polyester shirts.
With a surplus warehouse that houses more furniture than the storefront, Vogue Vintage’s stock is truly rich with cool and unique finds. Though their offerings might be a touch expensive, at least you likely won’t find them in anyone else’s home.
