Size matters — especially when it comes to the power of short films, which are inarguably having a big moment.

Returning to Tangent Gallery for its fourth year is the Annual Detroit International Festival of Animation, which will showcase 90 minutes of animated shorts from local and international filmmakers ranging from “experimental to sophisticated.” In addition to the weekend’s five screenings, the festival will also feature a gallery of animation and comic-inspired art as well as work and wares from local artists, zine, and comic creators.

The 4th Annual Detroit International Festival of Animation begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 5 and 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at Tangent Gallery; 715 E. Milwaukee St., Detroit; 313-873-2955;
