It’s finally time to get your hands messy with melted ice cream, to go to the park and walk barefoot. It’s time to play hooky and hit the beach, or flee a hot house for a cool museum. It’s time to have lunch on a restaurant patio, stroll around an art fair in new sunglasses, then take in a concert under the stars.

These are the things that we daydream about all winter — along with the taste of fresh lemonade, the sulfur smell from firecrackers and the sound of motorcycles cruising Woodward. And, even though it may be bordering on Hallmark sentimentality to say so, these tiniest moments can give the oppressively humid Detroit summer an almost magical quality.

By sharing some of the thousands of events that make up summer around Detroit, we’re hoping this guide makes those moments a little less rare.
