For instance, somebody isolated the vocal track from Van Halen’s “Running with the Devil,” encoding David Lee Roth’s screams, yawls and hoots into little buttons on the David Lee Roth Runnin’ With the Devil Soundboard. If you thought Roth-free Halen was bad, you should hear Diamond Dave without the band behind him. Minus the song’s heavy rhythm, such lines as “Oh, God, I’m running! Ah!” sound like some deranged wino hurling a bottle of Almaden against a wall. Little whoops and cries that sounded so badass in their musical context now sound like Dave stubbed his toe on the curb. For real fun, click on each “Woo” one after another, and imagine Dave manning a coin-operated horsey ride outside the party store. Brilliant.
For more unintentional humor, one late entry has got to be the Christian Bale Soundboard. Some crafty person with access to recordings from the set of the latest Terminator movie released a four-minute-long foul-mouthed hissy fit creepy Bale threw last summer. It’s a breathtakingly foul rant, easily eclipsing the similarly hilarious “Snuggles” rant from native Detroiter Casey Kasem from years back. But, thanks to the soundboard, you can listen to as much or as little of it as you like.
In fact, that extended Bale rage has now been remixed into a techno track of sorts, by Los Angeles-based RevoLucian. The YouTube video, entitled “Bale Out,” has sliced and diced the crazy conniption into track that’s really quite danceable, enlivened with images of the Balester urging us to shake it — and it sounds nothing like Huey Lewis & the News.
