Back in 2003, the Poor Man’s Art Collective was created to help bolster support for new, emerging, and established artists whether they were visual, fine, or performing artists. The collective seeks to support all forms of art and provides a way for those artists to showcase their work. This exhibit presents a group of talented artists whose visions are worthy of public display. Independent Artists United will be the platform for unique and dynamic artists who operate outside of the mainstream art community, providing an atmosphere of creative energy allowing the artists to move forward and challenge preconceived ideas as to what art is. The opening reception will include a food tasting by Bearded Chef Pastries.
Friday, July 15 from 6-9 p.m. at the Carr Center, 331 E. Grand River Ave., Detroit; 313-965-8430; thecarrcenter.org; free.
