Outer Limits Lounge to celebrate its grand opening with Wiccans' record release show

The new incarnation of the Outer Limits Lounge officially starts on Saturday with the dive bar's grand opening and a record release show for local psych act the Wiccans.

As we previously wrote, Outer Limits — which sits at the Hamtramck-Detroit border on Buffalo Street — closed in 2010 and sat vacant until John Szymanski — aka Johnny Hentch of the Hentchmen — purchased it in 2012. Since then, he and wife Kelly Jean Caldwell (Wiccans, Saturday Looks Good to Me, Kelly Jean Caldwell Band) used it for get-togethers, band rehearsals, late night barn burners, and their wedding.

Over the years, Hentch and Caldwell slowly began planning and putting together the proper licensing to reopen, and started pouring drinks last month. Hentch tells Metro Times that Outer Limits is considering simple food options and may start hosting pop-ups.

Saturday will mark the official start to the new era, and is also a release party for Outer Limits Records' third release, the Wiccans' Bad Habit LP. As the label puts it, you'll find the electrical incarnation of the Wiccans "weaving the ethereal harmonies and pagan balladry they’re known for, amid the stoned shreddery."

Cover is $5. Serration Pulse opens and starts at 10 p.m. sharp; Wiccans
play at 11 p.m. sharp. A DJ plays into the wee hours. Find more
details on Facebook.
