Open Streets Detroit is putting the neighborhood front and center by taking over the streets of Southwest Detroit on Sunday, October 7.

In its third year, the event spans over a 3.5 mile stretch of road from Beacon Park to Michigan Avenue and into Southwest along West Vernor Highway and turns the streets into safe, car-free zones for pedestrians. Open Streets Detroit encourages the community to walk, bike, shop and play in the city. Along with promoting healthy activities, the route also highlights local businesses, neighborhoods and green spaces throughout Southwest Detroit.

Open Streets Detroit has also expanded its location and will host an event at Rouge Park on Saturday, August 11.

The event will run from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. rain or shine. Attendees are strongly encouraged to come as they are and participate by dancing, running, or biking through the streets to celebrate the unique culture of Detroit.
