Donkey Kong, Street Fighter, and Pacman— the nostalgic '90s arcade games have made a comeback thanks to Ready Player One, an arcade serving beer and cocktails with a side of your childhood games.
Downtown's newest basement arcade bar, located in Greektown, will be available to rejoicing Detroit gamers, MLive reports.
The basement space will feature nine pinball machines, 30 arcade games, and a Nintendo 64 console for Mario Kart. Other games will include Mario, Punch-Out!!, Mortal Kombat, Tetris, X-Men, The Simpsons, NFL Blitz, NBA Jam and more all located at the Globe Tobacco Building at 407 E. Fort St.
Instead of running on quarters, games will operate on a "free play" system. Bartenders and servers will supply a handful of game tokens to patrons who order food or drinks.
The bar offers eight taps along with a loaded comfort food menu. Grilled cheese and tomato soup, meatloaf sliders, rice krispie treats, butternut squash mac n' cheese, and chicken wings dipped in Rock 'N' Rye barbecue sauce can be found on Chef Jordan Ceresnie's menu.
Game inspired cocktails will be featured as well such as the Pac-Man Sour and Crash Bandicoot.
Ready Player One will open 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Sundays and will be closed Mondays.
