28 WED • ISSUES AND LEARNING Yoga Master Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev — Try pronouncing Vasudev’s name three times fast. Your tongue may end up as contorted as your limbs during one of his classes. Vasudev is an internationally recognized yoga guru and founder of the Isha Foundation, an international public service organization dedicated to Indian arts of self-transformation. His Isha Yoga classes aim to help students to release physical, mental and emotional blocks. For non-yogis, the $275 enrollment fee for his week of classes might elevate more eyebrow than consciousness, but to those who get off on sitting in the lotus position, Vasudev is a really big deal. The event takes place at the St. Toma Banquet Hall (25600 Drake Road, Farmington Hills); for information dial up the Isha hotline at 248-478-4786.

2 SUN • ART Craft Meets Craft — Hey, you were going to drink that well-crafted beer anyway … why not gulp it out of a well-crafted piece of handmade glass? Enjoy the dee-lish coupling of microbrews (Ghettoblaster is a personal favorite) and fine art at the Craft meets Craft exhibition in historic Cass Corridor. Brought to you by the folks at Motor City Brewing Works and Furnace Hot Glass, this offering of handmade beer mugs and glasses is the perfect way to sate both the artsy and the fartsy in all of you. At the Motor City Brewing Works (470 W. Canfield, Detroit).

2 SUN • MUSIC Your Enemies Friends — Something about Your Enemies Friends has the capacity to inspire the rising crest of a riotous teenage mob. The frightening alchemy of loud music, soggy hormones and post-adolescent rage flips a dangerous switch: One minute it’s just a bunch of really excited kids assin’ out in front of a rock band and the next minute it’s a mechanism of senseless destruction, a hurricane of flailing arms, stomping legs and flying fists. Either way, when they plug in and the music comes tumbling out of the speakers, it’s a good thing. At the Shelter (431 E. Congress, Detroit) with Midtown, Armore for Sleep and Time and Distance. Call 313-961-MELT for info.

Ongoing • ART Speak Truth to Power — There are two events to watch out for this week when it comes to human rights presentations. First, there’s “Towards a Just and Equitable Future: A Report From Teens in the Cranbrook Peace Foundation Youth Leadership Project,” on Saturday, May 1, at 5 p.m. and then conscientious Detroiters welcome Father Roy Bourgeois, M.M., founder of SOA Watch, a national organization dedicated to closing the U.S. Army-sponsored School of the Americas in Columbus, Ga. (This school trains Latin American military officers who have been at the heart of the most serious human rights violations in the world, including massacres.) The presentation, “The SOA-Threat To Human Rights in Latin America” will be held on Sunday, May 2, at 7 p.m. Both events are scheduled to take place at the Focus: HOPE Conference Center and Gallery (1400 Oakman Blvd., Detroit). Call 313-874-2624 for further info.
