Vasudev is an internationally recognized yoga guru and founder of the Isha Foundation, an international public service organization dedicated to Indian arts of self-transformation. His Isha Yoga classes aim to help students to release physical, mental and emotional blocks. For non-yogis, the $275 enrollment fee for his week of classes might elevate more eyebrow than consciousness, but to those who get off on sitting in the lotus position, Vasudev is a really big deal. Well, then look no further than the Emagine Theatre’s 24-hour movie-watching marathon, “Hollywood Nights.” Join 94.7 WCSX and CLF (Children’s Leukemia Foundation) for this day-long fundraiser and catch a few new releases while you are at it. The frightening alchemy of loud music, soggy hormones and post-adolescent rage flips a dangerous switch: One minute it’s just a bunch of really excited kids assin’ out in front of a rock band and the next minute it’s a mechanism of senseless destruction, a hurricane of flailing arms, stomping legs and flying fists. First, there’s “Towards a Just and Equitable Future: A Report From Teens in the Cranbrook Peace Foundation Youth Leadership Project,” on Saturday, May 1, at 5 p.m. and then conscientious Detroiters welcome Father Roy Bourgeois, M.M., founder of SOA Watch, a national organization dedicated to closing the U.S. Army-sponsored School of the Americas in Columbus, Ga. (This school trains Latin American military officers who have been at the heart of the most serious human rights violations in the world, including massacres.)
