Italy has gifted the world with some of cinema’s most precious films. From Life Is Beautiful to 8 ½, La Dolce Vita, and the original Suspiria — there is no shortage of great Italian works. This year, the Italian Film Festival will tour the country with a stop at the Detroit Film Theatre. The free festival, which will screen more than a dozen recent Italian-made films with five showings, will kick off with 2018’s Benedetta follia (Blessed Madness). Throughout the festival’s run, there will be discussions with filmmakers and in-person introductions.

Italian Film Festival's opening night screening begins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3; 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit; dia.org; Free with registration.
