A few years ago Kelly Pepper had gastric bypass surgery. He lost 145 pounds as a result, and no longer fit into this otherwise fine and finely made clothing. A friend suggested he consign and, well, the rest is history.
After discovering the joys of consignment, he decided to open his own high-end men's consignment store in Plymouth. Gentlemen's Consignment stayed there shortly before Pepper realized the space wasn't right for him or his business and subsequently moved to downtown Royal Oak. Since 2012, the small business has been operating out a retail space on South Washington Avenue selling secondhand finds from Hermes, Giorgio Armani, Prada, True Religion, Valentino, Versace, Donna Karan, and many other designer brands.
The store is also well-stocked with not just suit coats and slacks, but also dress shoes, loafers, and snow boots, and sunglasses, belts, briefcases, bags, kitschy cuff links, fun fur coats, unexpectedly funky leather jackets, and even ties from Detroit-based Cyberoptix and Well Done Goods.
Pepper also employs a tailor who works in-store, which is mighty helpful when you fall in love with a garment and only have one size to choose from. The store can also makes neckties from a stock of their own deconstructed silks. Looking for something with a more personal touch? They'll make neckties out of your own old ties and worn-out silks.
With plenty of fabulous finds in stock, Gentlemen's Consignment is a worthy stop whether you consider yourself a fashion-conscious man or find yourself shopping for one.
