With all the “filmless” sound tracks circulating among film-school hipsters, it’s about time someone made sense of the madness by creating more of it. The Sundance Channel, Atlantic Records, Elle magazine and POPcast.com have given filmmakers the assignment to craft a short film (not music video) to go along with any track off Dusty Trails, an experimental landscape score inspired by spaghetti westerns, ’70s thrillers and French New Wave cinema. The sound track, which lilts and expands with minor-key drones and gauzy, electro atmosphere is the brainchild of Vivian Trimble (former Luscious Jackson keyboardist) and Josephine Wiggs (former Breeders bassist). Sundance will broadcast the winning film as part of the network’s “Sonic Cinema” series in September, along with screenings at various fall film festivals. Filmmakers can get a copy of the sound track by calling 877-765-3456 or by sending an e-mail. Complete contest rules and entry forms are available at lifestylesmarketing.com. All entries must be received by Aug. 21.
