It's time for a tech nap.

You have until sundown today to get some precious phone time in if you want to take part in National Day of Unplugging.

From sundown today, March 9 through sundown March 10, National Day of Unplugging challenges people from all over the world to take a break from the chokehold that is social media, selfies, swiping, and streaming.

"We increasingly miss out on important moments in life like sitting down to appreciate a good record or read a book, or actively watching a live performance," says Third Man Records' Sarah Stawski. "We will all be unplugging once we kick-off the event."

Third Man Records
in Midtown will host a free celebration in honor of the tech-free day with acoustic performances, readings, a sing-a-long for toddlers, as well as a guided meditation, and a Polaroid photo booth.

The Detroit Institute of Arts will celebrate the unplugging with a notebook binding workshop and will be offering phone sleeping bags. Avalon Bakery's five locations will also pass out the symbolic, drawstring pouches along with chocolate chip sea salt cookies for patrons who use them.
