It is a truth universally acknowledged that we don't deserve dogs. For millennia, man's best friend have been our companions, comforters, and in some cases, lifesavers.
In an effort to give back to dogs in need, Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control (DACC) will be hosting 'Detroit Dogventures' this April. Residents and visitors will be able to go on field trips with adoptable canines for an afternoon full of puppy love.
'Detroit Dogventures' is part of a nationwide study by Arizona State University to better understand how fostering programs can help to improve canine behavior and increase the visibility of adoptable dogs in the community. The field trips will take participants and their foster pooch to participating businesses throughout the surrounding downtown area, including Canine to Five, City Bark, 8 Degrees Plato, and more.
"Foster care is the gold standard for lifesaving and we consider foster caregivers as the VIPs,” says Mary Ippoliti-Smith of Maddie’s Fund, the foundation sponsoring the study. "These types of programs are a great way to connect the community with shelter pets.”
Participants are not required to have any prior canine-handling experience. Leashes, dog collars, and treats will be provided to participants by DACC. Those interested in getting involved with 'Detroit Dogventures' can visit DACC located at 7401 Chrysler Service Dr. anytime between 10:30 a.m.–1 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 through Sunday, April 7.
