Clawson's Leon & Lulu is much beloved by metro Detroit shoppers. Whether they're enthralled with the place's eclectic selection of home decor, furniture, personal accessories, and toys or they love that it used to be the Ambassador Skating Rink, folks just can't get enough of this place.

It seems Leon & Lulu's friends in the media also have a special place in their hearts for the shop. Home Accents Today, a nearly 30-year-old South Carolina-based trade publication, announced today that the store made their annual list of 50 Retail Stars.

Home Accents Today has been putting this list together for over a decade, acknowledging the best of the best in locally-owned brick-and-mortar shops across the country. And this year, Leon & Lulu got a nod.

In a release, the magazine's editor had this to say about Leon & Lulu: “When it comes to creative retailing, Mary Liz Curtin wrote the book. I don’t think there’s anything that Leon & Lulu doesn’t do, and they do it all so well: Special events, their Artists’ Market, lots of fundraisers and charity partnerships, and a beautiful offering of furniture, gifts and home décor. It’s a total shopping experience, from the fresh baked cookies and customer service to the roller-skating greeters who help preserve the store’s history as a former roller rink. And they're about to double the fun with the acquisition of the Clawson movie house, a 7,800 square foot building that will provide additional retail space following its renovation, photos of which they’re sharing on the store’s website.”

Brighton's Modern Vintage was also recognized on the list .
